Dr. Zhang is originally from Glastonbury, CT. She graduated from Duke University with a bachelor's degree in Evolutionary Anthropology. After leaving CT for a few years, she came back to attend the University of Connecticut, School of Dental Medicine, where she received recognition for outstanding achievement in periodontics. Along with her dental degree, she graduated with a certificate in Social Determinants of Health & Disparities. She completed her postgraduate periodontics residency and master's in dental science at the University of Connecticut where she studied under fantastic dental educators, including both Drs. LaPorta and Thacker.
During dental school, Dr. Zhang traveled to Neltume, Chile to provide dental treatment for residents in the nearby rural communities. Her community work also involved teaching health education to students at the American School for the Deaf in West Hartford, CT.
Dr. Zhang is a member of the American Academy of Periodontology, American Dental Association, and Connecticut State Dental Association. Her research during dental school on the periodontal health of patients with End-Stage Renal Disease sparked her initial interest in Periodontics. Her master's research in residency focused on understanding the diagnostic challenges in patients with desquamative gingivitis.
Outside of dentistry, Dr. Zhang also teaches a gentle yoga class in Cromwell. In her free time, she enjoys reading and crocheting, as well as spending time with her husband Chris and two cats, Bobo and Shagua. Her favorite activity in Glastonbury is going blueberry picking during the summertime.
